The residence of the "Tobacco Baron", a rich businessman before the Revolution, is located in the most exclusive district of Havana and it is nowadays one of the numerous «protocol residences», reserved to governmental guests. The Pope, John Paul II, lived in this residence during his historical visit in 1998. This neoclassical, Florentine palace, with its trend to eclecticism recognized in Havana, was built with the most beautiful materials of the whole world: marbles, precious woods, woodworks, bas-reliefs, paintings and stained glass windows, harmonize with the park and the naturally exuberant Caribbean environment. Probably the most luxurious residence of Cuba, even if this kind of intricate architecture is the least expected in the tropics, the Mansion is a perfect representation of the fifties in Havana.
